James "Larry" Sherman

-

August 15, 1943 - January 25, 2018 It is with sadness and Love that we announce our Husband, Father, and Grandfather, James "Larry" Sherman joined his parents and God on January 25, 2018 Larry was born on August 15, 1943 to Jim and Emma Sherman in Kennett, MO. His family moved to Yuma in 1950 when Larry was in the third grade. He cherished his life long friendships and said he was very fortunate to have lived during the best 3 decades in history, the 50's, 60's & 70's. "The girls were the prettiest, the cars were the fastest, and the songs were the neatest." The desert was his favorite place and the old hunting buggy never let him down. He spent decades going to the desert with friends and family. On his last trip one year ago, he showed us the exact hill he wanted his ashes spread so he can look out over the place he so enjoyed. Larry worked for 30 years with the Yuma County Water Users Association, he made a lot of friends there and enjoyed his job as a Ditch Rider. He could eye ball the flow of water through the gate and tell you how much was going through. After this process was computerized, he had fun showing the young guys his skill when they would go down. Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Sherman; Son, James Stacy Sherman; Daughter Gina Whittington (Gene), Grandkids, Scott, Christi, Tarah, Tylee and Jacob; Daughter Robin Peters, Grandkids, Cody, Cole and Isabella. He has left all of us with a complete, happy childhood full of great memories which will never leave us. The best example of a good life and good example. We will keep it rolling. In the end Larry only wished he had time to build one more hot rod and spend more time with family, especially the Grandkids, the lights of his life. He joked that he often was asked had he lived all his life in Yuma, he always answered, "not yet". We now can say he did. To all who knew him, please join us for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 10th @ 1:00 pm, Ramada #11 (northeast corner of Civic Center parking lot), 1440 West Desert Hills Drive, Yuma, AZ 85365. If you have one, please drive your classic car/hot rod to the event, reserved parking will be designated up front. If you have one, bring a lawn chair, limited tables and chairs will be available. Larry wanted a party and not a funeral, come and share your stories, enjoy some food and drink (TriTip BBQ provided by the Yuma County Water Users Association) and think of Larry looking down on the event with joy!
