“Back where it all began,” could easily be the theme of the 2018 Arizona Mod Tour as it arrives at Cocopah Speedway for the final three races of the 10race series tonight, Saturday and Sunday.

When the tour takes the green flag tonight, Hunter Marriott, from Brookfield, MO., will be the driver with the bulls-eye on his back, having won two of the first seven IMCA Modified Division feature events at Arizona Speedway, Central Arizona Speedway and Canyon Speedway (Wednesday night’s event at Canyon Speedway was rained out and Thursday night’s event results were unavailable).

This is the same Hunter Marriott who won both feature events in the Cactus Clash at Cocopah Speedway, the preliminary event to the Arizona Mod Tour.

Heading into Wednesday’s Arizona Mod Tour event at Canyon Speedway, Marriott had a 14-point lead over Ethan Dotson, from Bakersfield, Cailf. Third place belonged to Ricky Thornton, Jr., from Chandler, 35 points out of first place, with Casey Ameson, from Fargo, N.D., in fourth place and Zachary Madrid, from Phoenix, rounding out the top five.

The highest local driver in the Modified standings through Wednesday night was Imperial’s Lance Mari, in 12th place.

On the Sport Modified side of things, Austin Howes, from Memphis, MO., was the leader through Wednesady, followed closely by Arie Schouten, from Blair, Neb., one point behind in second place.

Holtville’s Chris Toth was tied for third

place with Ethan Braaksma, from Newton, Iowa, and Fred Ryland, fro Brentwood, Calif., rounded out the top five.

The defending Sport Mod champion in the Arizona Mod Tour is Yuma’s Miles Morris. He was riding in eighth place, while Yuma’s Kyle Smith was in 16th place.

Marriott is the defending champion in the Modified Division.

Racing on Friday and Saturday night at Cocopah Speedway begins at 7 p.m. Sunday’s event will beign at 2 p.m.
