Today’s culture short on personal responsibility
The tragic, mindless loss of life in Parkland, Florida is abhorrent. Innocents making their way through what seemed to be a routine school day that quickly escalated into anything but routine. Prayers for the families and loved ones lost. Admiration and love for the teachers who selflessly gave their lives to protect their students.
Once again, there are many voices crying out for further gun control. More laws are not the answer. How many laws did this perpetrator violate while committing this carnage? The damage is done.
President Trump said, “No parent should ever have to fear for their sons and daughters when they kiss them goodbye in the morning.” No never.
I would submit to you the following based on observations I have studied prior to 1970. Just an observation mind you, but I believe it merits consideration.
You can trace current events back to the origin of LBJ’s “Great Society” and destruction of the family structure. Unfortunately, the moral relativism of today’s culture is short on personal responsibility and long on me, myself and I. If it feels good and you identify with it, anything pretty much goes. The cowardly thing to do has always been to blame an inanimate object instead of addressing the root causes. When you destroy the sanctity of life to the tune of 1.2 million abortions a year, this is the end result.
Another seminal issue is the mental health aspect. If we don’t fund and treat those with psychological issues, we are ignoring the obvious. Time for our politicians to step up and take responsibility for this blatant omission.
If you want to truly address this issue in the short term, retired military and police should be hired and armed and stationed at every school. A “gun free zone” has been the killing field for every mental defective in the last 30 years. Time to stop playing “gotcha politics” and spouting mindless talking points and take meaningful action. Sorry progressives, sometimes you need to man up to protect the most vulnerable in our society. They deserve no less.
That time is now!
