Police seek suspect in drive-by shooting
The Somerton Police Department is investigating a drive-by shooting that happened Thursday afternoon in the area of Joshua and Columbia.
According to Capt. Joseph A. Turitto Jr., officers responded to the scene at about 2:16 p.m. after receiving several 911 calls reporting gunfire at that location.
Upon their arrival, officers found two young adults in a water retention area who had been shot, suffering serious but reportedly non-life-threatening injuries.
Both victims — one had been shot in the chest, the other in the leg — were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by Somerton/Cocopah paramedics.
The suspect is believed to be 18-yearold Somerton resident Raymundo Chairez Jr., who fled the area in a 2010 Dodge Charger, light gray in color with black stripes on the back, hood and rear sides.
The vehicle an Arizona license plate of 536913D. Somerton police say the shooting appears to have been “target specific.”
Neither of the victims are cooperating with investigators. However, Somerton police are continuing to search for the suspect.
