Group wants confiscation, not control

-

It didn’t take long for the gun control groups to respond to the horrible event in Florida. While parents, relatives and friends grieve, and millions of people in our nation are emotionally affected, to one degree or another, by the senseless killing of students, these “opportunistic” anti-gun people prey on those emotions. Disgusting!

While we can agree that there is a need to strengthen and improve the measures in place to keep guns out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them — felons, mentally disturbed, undocumented immigrants/ non-citizens etc. — that isn’t the goal of those who sponsor the demonstrations: they want to take guns from everyone. They don’t want control, they want confiscation.

In the first place, history tells us what happens when citizens aren’t allowed to have guns, as compared to those countries who allow them, so what do you think the goal of the “no guns” people is? In the second place, thinking they can get Americans to give up their guns is a pipe dream; it would be nearly impossible. Even if it could be done it would take years, and the costs involved aside, the incidents that would occur aren’t pleasant to contemplate.

It has been said by many that guns aren’t the problem, people are the problem — people of what is a slowly deteriorating society. That’s an unfortunate truth. Those who sincerely believe removing guns will eliminate these barbaric incidents — solve our problems — are simply naive. The rest of the “no guns” crowd have an agenda that transcends their “safety” rhetoric, and they have managed to dupe a lot of folks. Sad. GENE LEMON Yuma
