NRA could be responsible organization with influence
School Shooting in Parkdale: The action by one disturbed 19-year-old person showing once again that:
1. Politicians in state legislatures and the U.S. Congress don’t get it. But they do, it’s about the NRA money, “our Hearts and Prayers go out to these victims and their families.” These words are as empty as an empty bag.
2. No doubt the system failed at all levels: school counselors, school administration, local law enforcement and of course the FBI. What role should the governors and legislatures of the respective states have? Review the procedures to security and background checks. Communicate better, share information.
3. Perhaps the voters in each state need to address the effect of the NRA on all elections and ignore the likes of McCain, Rubio, and Scott and influence of NRA Money.
4. This issue is bigger than the 2nd Amendment, it is bigger than the NRA. As soon as the shooting occurred many die-hard gun owners cried about losing their guns. “For our children’s sake, stop whining.” If the NRA was a responsible organization I believe they could influence the strengthening of laws on assault-type weapons, have a cooling off period for buying weapons at dealers and the licensing of gun show dealers. Our infatuation with guns is unhealthy. I am not asking for the end of the 2nd Amendment. I am asking for common sense.
But then perhaps I am asking for too much!
By the way, what safety measures do we have in Arizona and in our schools that can prevent an incident that occurred in Florida? Do we collect information on gang members, or troubled teens? Can the schools share information with local authorities? VINCENT LACEY Yuma
