Cibola baseball blows out Gila Ridge in AIA opener

Cibola pitcher Martin Franco dominated Gila Ridge on Tuesday in the AIA opener for both teams, firing a one-hit, 11-strikeout shutout in a 16-0, six-inning Cibola win.

Offensivel­y for Cibola, Ricky Munoz went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Joaquin Martinez went 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored, and Roman Valenzuela went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Jordan Canales had the lone hit for Gila Ridge. Andres Cota started the game was tagged for seven runs (only two earned) in 3 1/3 innings.

MORE PREP BASEBALL Antelope 10, Mohave Accelerate­d 8

The Rams improved to 5-0 AIA with the win in this back-and-forth game, which saw Antelope rally from two runs down in the top of the seventh. Brady Jameson started the game for Antelope and recorded 10 strikeouts in six innings before giving way to Brandon Jaime, who came on with two runners on base in the seventh and went on to record the final three outs.

Jaime (4-for-5, 2 RBIs) and Jameson (2-for-3, 3 RBIs) were also among the Rams’ offensive leaders, as well as Dylan Thomas (3-for-5, 2 RBIs).

PREP SOFTBALL Gila Ridge 12, San Luis 4

Hailey Matthews went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Hawks, while Amanda Rubida, Tinley Schmidgall, Alyssa Darby and Sherlyn Molina all had two hits apiece.

For San Luis, Rachellt Barraza went 2-for-3 and drove in three of the team’s four runs.

PREP BOYS TENNIS Gila Ridge 9, Lake Havasu 0

Josh White, Brock Price, Andrew Polston, Brady Shill, Isaac Lopez and Jordan Slater all won their singles matches in straight sets.

PREP GIRLS TENNIS Gila Ridge 7, Lake Havasu 2

The Hawks won four of six singles matches and all three doubles matches. Katie Gronbach sealed the win during the singles portion with a third-set tiebreak win.
