Primping, pampering — and networking

Expo slated Saturday at AWC’s Schoening Conference Center

Stay home, husbands and significant others.

Or find something to do on your own on Saturday.

The Women’s Expo takes place that day, and as the name implies, it’s an event for women.

The expo gives women in and around Yuma a chance to network with one another, shop, gain some valuable health information and get spa treatment.

Yuma’s Territorial Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association is again partnering with Women’s Health Specialists in putting on the 15th annual expo.

“Obviously Yuma loves this event,” said Karen McCafferty, president of the ABWA chapter in Yuma. “It’s just a day for women to be pampered, to primp and do some shopping for themselves.”

The Schoening Conference Center at Arizona Western College’s main Yuma campus is the site for the expo. Doors open at 8 a.m. for those who purchase $5 VIP tickets in advance, or at 9 a.m. who purchase $2 general admission tickets at the door.

Part of the center will be designated as the Shopping Area, where about 70 area businesses, health care providers, financial institutions and other organizations will have booths. Whether they’re interested in hearing aids or homeopathy, microneedling or mortgages, water softeners or wine, women can get answers to their questions about all those products and services — or even purchase them.

Nearby will be the Spa Area, they can get massages, eyebrow threading and other cosmetic or personal care.

Medical professionals from Women’s Health Specials and Yuma Regional Medical Center will make presentations on topics of interest to women in the Doc Talk sessions.

Doc Talk sessions will cover these subjects at the following times:

• Dr. James Vining of Women’s Health Specialists will speak on “Urinary Incontinence” at 9:30 a.m.

• Sarah Strom, a certified midwife at Women’s Health Specialists, will present the topic “Contraception and its Different Options for Women” at

10:30 a.m.

• YRMC will provide a presenter yet to be confirmed. That presentation starts at 11:30 a.m.

And for those who want to get down to business Saturday, the expo also offers the chance to make professional contacts with other women in the same or related career fields.

The first 500 among the VIP ticket holders who come through the door will receive free swag bags containing a variety of free products from area businesses. VIP tickets can be

purchased until the close of business Friday at these locations: Corona Optique, 2149 W. 24th St.; Women’s Health Specialists, 2911 S. 8th Ave.; and Edward R. Jones, 11361 S Foothills Blvd.

Baskets of gift items will be raffled off beginning at 11:30 a.m. Raffle tickets can be purchased in Schoening center as the expo is taking place.

For those needing a lunch break, food will be served at a taco bar in the courtyard outside the conference center.

The Women’s Expo continues until 1 p.m.
