Thanks to all who helped make 2018 Mock Trial a success!

-

On March 3, the Arizona High School Mock Trial Tournament for Region One took place in Yuma at the Yuma County Justice Center. Five teams from Cibola High School and Lake Havasu High School participated in the event, including two sketch artists from Cibola High School.

We express our sincere gratitude to the following individuals who volunteered their time and resources in order to make the event a success. Together, we provided 36 high school students the unique opportunity to better understand the legal system, to strengthen their understanding of their fundamental rights under the United States’ Constitution, and to increase their confidence, poise, and oral, critical thinking and teamwork skills.

Thank you to Hon. Stephen Rouff, Superior Court; Hon. Levi Gunderson, Superior Court; Hon. Kathryn Stocking-Tate, Superior Court, for their generosity and time as trial judges for the competition.

Thanks also to attorney coaches Joshua Davis-Salsbury, Angela James and Dallin Marcy, who provided invaluable guidance.

Thanks to the teacher coaches, Josh Guidote (Cibola High School) and Sarah Skemp (Lake Havasu High School), for their untiring commitment. A special thank you to Grant Molinar, who selflessly gave his time and experience to assist the Cibola High School teams.

Thank you to JP1 Bailiff Helen Orman and Julie Willinger for their much needed help throughout the day. We recognize Lynn Fazz, Yuma County Clerk of Superior Court, Yuma County Facilities Management, and Courthouse Security Officer Manuel Sarti, for their assistance in securing courtroom accommodations, setting up rooms, and providing security.

Thank you to our sponsors, the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education and the Yuma County Bar Association.

Thank you to all the high school students who competed in the tournament. They did an exceptional job! CLAUDIA GONZALEZ, ED FEHELEY, TERRI CAPOZZI, KATHY SCHABEN, AND HEATHER VINCI Yuma
