San Luis baseball beats Calexico in 9 innings

The San Luis baseball team won in walk-off fashion Friday against Calexico (Calif.), as Gabriel Valenzuela delivered the winning hit with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give the Sidewinder­s a 4-3 victory.

After starting pitcher Martin Miranda gave up three runs (two earned) in the first 1 2/3 innings, Christophe­r Bazua came on in relief and pitched the rest of the game without giving up a run.

Offensivel­y, David Mota, Daniel Ortega and Valenzuela had two hits each. Gerardo Hernandez, Alexis Castaneda and Omar Campa had one each. San Luis improved to 4-0 AIA with the victory.

MORE PREP BASEBALL Desert Vista 6, Cibola 1

The Raiders were held to just four hits in the loss, which dropped their record to 2-1 in AIA play. Ricky Munoz had two of them, while David Cuadros had one and drove in the team’s lone run of the contest.

PREP SOFTBALL Antelope 5, Baboquivar­i 4

Katelyn Quinonez struck out 15 in the win. Heidi Rios (3-for-3, 2 runs) led the way offensivel­y, while Michelle Gutierrez had the winning hit in the bottom of the seventh.

Cibola wins 2 more at Cool Nites

The Cibola softball team beat Sunnyslope 6-4 and St. Mary’s 2-0 on day two of the Cool Nites Tournament at Apollo High School.

Alanie Ornelas was the winning pitcher against Sunnyslope, while Kamryn Moctezuma (2-for-3) was the only Raider with multiple hits.

Against St. Mary’s, Kelly Katalbas pitched a one-hit shutout. Nicole Villa and Moctezuma recorded the Raiders’ only two hits.

PREP BOYS TENNIS Antelope wins 2 against Combs

The Rams played two matches Friday against Combs, winning the first 6-3 and the second 8-1.

Alex Jimenez, Kristopher Reyes and Isaac Filerio went undefeated in both singles and doubles on the day, while Daniel Reyes won both of his singles matches.
