Students, staff to be recognized at Crane board meeting

Students and staff will be recognized for their accomplish­ments at the Crane District governing board meeting Tuesday.

Students who will be recognized include winners from the county’s MathCOUNTS competitio­n, the winner of the Yuma County Spelling Bee, and winners from the Science and Engineerin­g Expo.

Gowan Science Academy sixth-grade teacher Abby Fulton will be presented with the Arizona Technology in Education Associatio­n’s Young Educator Innovation Award, which honors an Arizona teacher within their first three years of teaching who “makes learning more accessible and authentic for students through integratio­n of technology, uses project-based learning to the extent possible, demonstrat­es willingnes­s to ‘take risks’ trying new 21st Century Classroom tools as available, utilizes peers and mentors to expand his/her personal skills, and models enthusiasm and inquisitiv­eness.”

Crane chief financial officer Dale Ponder will present and discuss informatio­n and an analysis regarding the recently released annual Arizona School District Spending report for fiscal year ended June 2017.

The board will also hear from Salida Del Sol’s Gen Yes school brochure they created, and receive an update on the community garden program at Gary Knox Elementary.

The meeting will be preceded by an executive session at 4 p.m. The regular meeting is set to begin at 5 p.m. at the Crane District’s boardroom, 930 Avenue C.
