Fire House Facts

For the week of Feb. 25-March 3, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 320 emergency calls for service, including:

• 8 General Fire Response: Including: A smoking microwave oven, a small fire in an apartment ignited by a cigarette, a backyard shed on fire, and various alarms

• 8 Mutual Aid: Including: Called to assist Rural Metro with 5 medical emergencies in the county, 1 for assisting Somerton FD by backfilling station while they were fighting a house fire, 1 for assisting in San Luis with a fire and injuries associated with a riot

• 34 Motor Vehicle Crashes: Including: 1 involving a tree, 3 involving motorcycles, 3 involving pedestrians, 2 involving school buses, 1 involving a bicycle, 1 involving a pole, 2 rollovers, 1 involving a semi-truck, and 1 involving a head-on crash

• 246 Other Medical Emergencies (serious to minor):

Including: 29 for difficulty breathing, 16 for chest pain, 34 for falls, 10 for unconscious people, 6 seizure cases, 7 possible stroke cases, 6 for intoxicated persons, 1 for a person under the influence of drugs, 4 drug overdoses, 12 for people with psychiatric problems, 2 for dehydration, 2 for medical alarms, 4 for allergic reactions, 2 for choking, 19 for altered or decreased level of consciousness, 2 for fevers, 1 for broken bones, 2 for diabetic emergencies, 7 for man down calls, 1 for uncontrolled bleeding, 4 for bad headaches, 1 for an assault, 3 for back pain, 13 for abdominal pain, 2 for lacerations, 1 for a 9-year-old with their foot stuck in a bicycle, 1 for 2 children (9 and 11 years old) who had fallen into a canal (found safe!), and other illnesses and injuries

• 24 Special Duty, Public Assistance, and Residential Assignments:

Including: 1 assisting YPD with blood clean-up at a scene, 1 vehicle fire, 3 for fuel spills, 1 for strong gas smell in a home, 2 for alley fires, 1 for a smoking electrical outlet, 1 for a small brush fire, and various alarms
