San Luis municipal judge steps down

- BY CESAR NEYOY BAJO EL SOL

SAN LUIS, Ariz. — Kristin McManus, the municipal judge for this city for nearly two years, will step down from the post effective April 22.

McManus notified City Administrator Tadeo De La Hoya of her plans to resign as magistrate in a letter delivered Friday.

“Thank you for the support and the opportunities that you have provided me during the last two years,” McManus said in the letter. “I have truly enjoyed my time working with the City and am thankful for the opportunity it has given me to serve the people of San Luis.”

McManus, an attorney by profession, was contracted by the city as magistrate in June 2016. She succeeded Rosendo Morales, who had retired earlier in the year.

McManus could not be reached immediately for comment Monday, but De La Hoya praised her performance, saying the city had hoped to review her contract for another two years next November.

“Only she can comment on the reasons for leaving,” De La Hoya said. “I can only say that she has done a good job. For my part, I have seen nothing questionable in her performance.”

De La Hoya said the city will be recruiting applicants for the judge position soon.

“It’s something very recent,” he said, “but the human resources department will open the post this week. We are also going to work with the Yuma County Superior Court to see what options we have for covering the position temporarily, while we find a new (judge).”

McManus said she is working with the Municipal Court administration to ensure a smooth transition by a new judge.
