Donald Hilton Engebretsen, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 11, 2018 in Yuma, Arizona. Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin to William and Bertie (Bean) Engebretsen. Don was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) in 1991 and his son David (survived by wife, Elicha) in 1996. Don retired from the United States Air Force where he served in the Korean and Vietnam war. He earned several medals of honor in his 20 years, including the Bronze Star. The discipline and patriotism that he learned from the US Air Force never left him, as friends and family can attest. After his service Don used his passion to open his own business, Engebretsen Construction. He loved being able to transform his knowledge into lasting projects which will stand in the community for years. You always knew when Don was around because his smile filled the room with warmth and laughter. He was a jokester at heart and loved being able to make the people around him laugh. Don also loved traveling and visiting his many friends across the Midwest. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, who loved the outdoors. Among his many loves was darts, horseshoes, poker and sports. Don will be truly missed by his family and friends, but we are all grateful for the mark he has left on each and every one of us. He is survived by his long-time companion and best friend, Joretta (Jo) Ottum of Yuma, AZ., five children, 19 grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren. At his request no services will be held. Don’s family will gather for a celebration of his life at a later date. Please sign the guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/yumasun
