Yuma police have arrested a man they believe robbed a Yuma Walmart on Wednesday by indicating that he had a gun.

The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Abraham Castillo.

Castillo was located at 4:24 a.m. Thursday morning in the 2300 block of 8th Avenue. He was arrested without incident. and booked into the Yuma County jail on suspicion of armed robbery.

According to Yuma police, officers responded to a report of threats with a weapon at the Walmart located at 2501 S. Ave. B at 8:15 p.m.

Yuma police say that the initial investigation revealed a male subject entered the business and approached an associate at the money center desk.

The suspect, described as possibly a Hispanic with a light complexion, wearing a dark-colored short-sleeve shirt with a red longsleeve shirt underneath and blue jeans, indicated he had a weapon and demanded money from the associate, police said. Afterward, he fled the store and left the area in an unknown vehicle. He was last seen wearing a straw hat and white bandanna.

Castillo made his initial appearance in Yuma Justice Court Thursday afternoon before Justice of the Peace Greg Stewart, who informed him of the allegation against him.

Stewart also explained to Castillo that the county attorney’s office had until Monday to review the case and decide whether to file a criminal complaint against him, charging him with any offenses. His bond was set at $200,000.
