Look beyond the situations — your life is in your hands

- Diana Maldonado

Have you ever met a person who brings you down just by simply having a conversation? That person who is so unhappy about life, who is always so focused on everything that is going wrong and how it is everyone else’s fault but their own? At least for me, it can be so hard to even overhear them talk. It is also one of my fears to become that person.

Have you noticed that that type of person is so hard to motivate and help? It doesn’t matter how many ideas, positive twists and inspirational thoughts you share with them, they will be so caught up feeling sorry for themselves that they are not able to see past their situation.

What can we do to not become those people and focus on moving forward in life? How we respond to these situations makes an enormous difference.

When life throws hard situations at us, we can be upset and react with an outburst or we can be humble and react with wisdom. We can react with anger and frustration or we can react with humbleness. We can react with uncertainty and fear or we can react with confidence and bravery.

Maybe you haven’t taken advantage of your opportunities, but now, today you can. Maybe you haven’t started that class that puts you closer to your life goal, but now you can. Maybe you haven’t applied for a new job, but today you can. Instead of remaining stagnant, it’s important that we are always thinking about how we can move forward and think about our next goal in life.

Just as important as it is to finish what you start, follow examples of those who are accomplished and successful. Surround yourself with people who will cheer you along the way and remind you about the reason why you want to accomplish your goals.

Celebrating your accomplishments, and being thankful for what you have been able to complete is crucial. It will motivate you to keep on moving forward on those goals that may take more determination and perseverance.

Don’t let everyday situ- ations or struggles define you. You have the power to make changes. You have the power to look for resources and start the journey of becoming a better version of you. It’s true that it’s not easy, but you have the power to mold your life and make life yours. Be the main character of your life.
