Gila Ridge baseball rallies to sweep Mohave

The Gila Ridge baseball team won games in two very different ways Saturday.

Hosting a doubleheader against Mohave, the Hawks rode the arm of Dale Tshigg to a 6-0 victory in game one and then relied on their offense to pull off an improbable comeback in a high-scoring game two.

The Hawks trailed 13-7 entering the sixth inning of the second game, but went on to score 11 in the frame to go on to an 18-13 win.

In the 6-0 opener, Tshigg allowed only one hit in six innings; it was the second time this season that he’s dominated the Thunderbirds, who he no-hit back in early March at the Big Red Construction Invitational.

In the second game, Ryan Hoskins (5-for-5, 3 RBIs) and Ramces Urias (5-for-6, 2 RBIs) led the way for a Gila Ridge offense that pounded out 18 hits.

Ramces also went 2-for-3 in the first game, giving him a seven-hit day.

Ryan Shazier takes in Ohio State spring game

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State fan favorite Ryan Shazier visited the spring game Saturday and stood without assistance to cheers from the crowd at his alma mater.

The Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker is recovering from a devastating spinal injury suffered in a Dec. 4 game with the Bengals.

Shazier, an honorary captain of one of the squads, drove a golf cart to midfield and climbed out to stand briefly to fire up the crowd . He then embraced the other honorary captain, former Ohio State cornerback and current Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins, and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer.

He also spoke to the team before the game.
