Scholarships offered for incoming Yuma Catholic freshmen

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Five scholarships are available for incoming freshmen enrolling at Yuma Catholic High School for the 2018-2019 school year.

The scholarships are being offered in partnership with the Pasquinelli Foundation. Students from Yuma County charter, public and Immaculate Conception, St. Francis, Southwestern Christian and Yuma Lutheran schools are eligible to apply. The deadline to apply is May 18 at 4 p.m.

“Based on the remarkable success of the 22 students currently receiving support, the Pasquinelli Foundation felt strongly that the opportunity should be offered again to incoming freshmen,” Yuma Catholic said in a news release about the scholarships.

Foundation chairman Gary Pasquinelli said he believes investing in Catholic education creates strong families, dedicated students and builds a lifelong foundation for service.

“I am convinced, and the experience of our graduates has proven that a Yuma Catholic High School education will put a young man or woman on a direct path to high achievement in college and in life,” he said.

Each of the five scholar- ships will fund $5,000 per year toward tuition for each of four years to attend Yuma Catholic High School. The support will be made available to those select students for all four years of their secondary education as long as they meet both the scholarship’s yearly 3.0 grade point average and good conduct requirement. There are scholarships available for the upcoming school year based on financial need and on academic merit. Information for the scholarships and applications can be found on the Yuma Catholic High School website: www. yumacatholic.org/admissions/scholarships.cfm or by calling Finance Director Josie Smith at 928-317- 7914.

“Deacon Gary Pasquinelli and the Pasquinelli Foundation continually demonstrate their faith in Yuma Catholic High School and our students. These scholarships enable us to serve the entire community and provide tools to help families choose YC,” said Rhett Stallworth, principal. “Exciting things are happening at Yuma Catholic with new programs like FFA. We are looking forward to a great year ahead thanks to supporters like the Pasquinelli Foundation.”

The school is also graduating its first class of Pasquinelli Scholars, said Bobbi Ukura, advancement director. They are Erick Cordova, Kylie Escalante, Nikki Ramirez, Margaret Riek, Mia Thelander and Nathan Whinnery.

“We are celebrating the steadfast commitment of the Pasquinelli Foundation to grow students in their faith and preparation for life. We are grateful,” Ukura said.
