Desert Vista Last Chance roundup

Four local track and field teams wrapped up the regular season Wednesday at the Desert Vista Last Chance Meet in Phoenix.

• For the Gila Ridge boys, Ryleigh North turned in the top two finishes of the day by taking second in the triple jump (43-11, new Div. II auto-qualifying mark) and third in the long jump (224). Becoming state qualifiers in their events were Cody Hartman in the 400 meters (4th at 50.52, PR), Daniel Marquez in the 800 meters (11th at 1:59.46, PR) and the Hawks’ 4x400meter relay team (6th at 3:29.68).

• For the Gila Ridge girls, Mia Corners took first in the 200 meters (25.41), first in the long jump (18-0.5), second in the 400 meters (58.48, PR) and fifth in the 100 meters (12.37); she became an automatic state qualifier in the 400, though she’d already automatica­lly qualified in four other events. Hanah Sims, meanwhile, PR’d in the pole vault with an automatic state-qualifying mark of 9-10, and also became a state qualifier in the javelin at 90-3, as did Molly Sims at 90-1.

• For the Cibola boys, Jake Smith took sixth in the 1,600 meters (4:25.09, new Div. I auto-qualifying time) and Levi Galvan took ninth in the shot put (46-5.75, PR).

• For the Cibola girls, Mori Gordon set personalbe­sts in the 200 meters (7th at 26.18) and the 300-meter hurdles (4th at 46.48, new auto-qualifying time).

• For the Kofa boys, Michael Jaso improved his Division I state-qualifying time in the 3,200 meters with a fourth-place finish in a personal-best 9:45.13.

• For the Kofa girls, Keiley Sharp won the javelin (126-7) and took second in the high jump (5-1), while Laura Sanderson improved her state-qualifying mark in the javelin with a second-place finish at 112-9.

• For the Yuma High boys, Tevon Pauldon improved his Division III state-qualifying time in the 100 meters with an eighth-place finish in a personal-best 22.78.

The entry deadline for state was Friday, and entrants will be posted Monday. The state meet is set for Wednesday and Saturday at Mesa Community College for Division I/II, and Friday/Saturday at MCC for Division III/IV.
