Police arrest man, seize cache of drugs during traffic stop
A man was arrested in a traffic stop that led to the seizure of $3,500 worth of narcotics Wednesday, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to a YCSO news release, at approximately 2:02 p.m. officers with the Yuma Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota sedan for a traffic violation in the 2400 block of Araby Road.
“During the course of the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of narcotics,” YSCO said.
According to the release, the sole occupant of the vehicle allegedly had 56.9 grams of methamphetamine with an approximate street value of $2,276; approximately 12.6 grams of cocaine worth about $650; approximately 2.2 grams of heroin valued at $110; approximately 21.2 grams of marijuana worth $424; 13 narcotic pills identified as Oxycodone with an estimated value of $65; 14 pills identified as Lorazepam, worth about $70; items consistent with narcotic sales; and a loaded handgun.
YCSO identified 53-yearold David Lee Kendell of Yuma as the occupant of the vehicle. He was booked into the Yuma County Detention Center on suspicion of transportation of a narcotic, possession of a narcotic for sale, possession of a narcotic, transportation of a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug for sale, possession of a dangerous drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, misconduct involving weapons, and possession of a weapon by a prohibited possessor.
Assisting with the narcotics investigation were members of the Yuma County Narcotics Task Force (YCNTF), a multi-agency task force comprised of officers and agents from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, the Yuma Police Department, the Somerton Police Department, the U.S. Border Patrol, and U.S. Homeland Security.
