Yuma police have released the name of the woman who was shot in an officer-involved shooting that happened late Monday afternoon following a domestic disturbance in a parking lot between the Gowan Building and City Hall.

The woman has been identified as 49-year-old Lisa Michelle Rivera, who according to her social media profile, had been working as a corporate meeting planner at the Gowan Company.

The name of the officer involved in the shooting has not been released.

Sgt. Lori Franklin, a spokesperson for the Yuma Police Department, said that the officer involved in the shooting has been on the force for five years, and in what is standard procedure for this type of incident, has been placed on administrative leave.

At approximately 4:31 p.m. Yuma police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in a parking lot the 100 block of West Giss Parkway.

Once on scene, officers made contact with Rivera, who was armed with a small caliber handgun. After a short struggle one shot was fired by a Yuma police officer, striking Rivera. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured during the altercation, which is still under investigation.
