Tour de Art

Local artists open their studios, raffle works

- BY RACHEL TWOGUNS @RTWOGUNS

To celebrate a growing interest in the arts within the Yuma community, 13 art studios have come together to not only hold a tour of their facilities, but to also offer a chance to win a piece of artwork crafted by a local artist.

“I think that this is definitely a renaissance period right now,” said Lia Littlewood of the Littlewood Fine Art and Community Co-Op. “Yuma is becoming more open to art and artists are coming out of the woodwork left and right. In opening the co-op a year ago now, we have just seen everyone wanting to see more and more. So we said let’s keep pushing and let’s keep going.”

The idea for the tour, she added, came about after a discussion she had with local glass artist Judy Phillips.

“She and I got together and realized we have 13 art studios and we need to make them more known,” Littlewood said. “We combined our forces and decided to contact art studios.”

Tour de Art will take place Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., with studios at various locations throughout Yuma participating. After the tour, a raffle drawing will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Littlewood Co-Op located at 1480 S. 2nd Ave.

Participants must be present at the drawing to win. After the drawing, an afterparty/silent auction will take place, with music and light refreshments. Both the tour and party are free and open to the public.

During the tour, participants need only to visit each location, check out the artwork within the studio and get a signature at each location to enter into the raffle at the end of the tour. Littlewood added that there is no specific order that tour participants need to take, though they must visit each location to enter the drawing.

Participants are asked to get their signatures on hexagons located on the event map (shown below). Maps will also be available at the Littlewood CoOp or can be printed online at mailchi. mp/86339321355d/tour-de-art-is-aroundthe-corner

The raffle will have 13 winners, each receiving one piece of artwork donated by local artists who will be a part of the tour. Artwork submitted as prizes range in mediums from pottery to jewelry.
