New Mexican consul comes to Yuma
Larios previously worked in San Antonio
Jose Antonio Larios, a 26-year veteran of Mexico’s foreign service, has assumed the post of Mexican consul for the Yuma area.
Larios, whose appointment took effect April 30, succeeds Eusebio Romero, who has retired.
Consulates assist Mexican citizens living and traveling abroad, providing such services as issuing documents for use in Mexico, including passports, birth certificates and voter credentials. Consulates also helps Mexicans in dealing with laws in the United States.
The consulate in Yuma provides assistance for Mexican nationals living in La Paz as well as Yuma County.
Larios, a native of Mexico’s Pueblo state who holds bachelor’s and postgraduate degrees from Benemerita Universidad Autonoma in Pueblo and from the University of New Mexico, comes to Yuma from San Antonio, Texas, where he has served as deputy consul since 2012.
He began his career with Mexico’s foreign ministry in 1992 at the Mexican embassy in Portugal. He has also held diplomatic posts in Morocco, New York and Los Angeles.
A spokeswoman for the Yuma consulate said he would not be available for an interview, owing to a restriction imposed on Mexican government employees barring them from speaking about federal government programs and plans during an electoral season. Mexico’s presidential and congressional elections take place in July.
