Prisoners should not have amenities

-

Prisoners have it better off than a lot of senior citizens.

It’s no wonder we have people constantly committing crimes. They get free room and board they’re protected from the elements of the weather, free medical. They have more rights than law-abiding citizens, especially senior citizens who have to live on a very tight budget, some can’t even afford their own medications let alone doctor visit copays, oh and let’s not forget about dental care that the prisoners seem to get but there is no dental care for senior citizens. How is that fair?

The law abiding citizen has to provide their own food, shelter, do their own laundry, pay for their medications, etc. It’s time the rules were changed. It’s time criminals were treated like criminals. Let them do hard time. Take away their TVs, Rec rooms, etc.

It makes no sense to me at all. If you punish a child for something you take away their video games, TVs, outdoor fun, whatever, but yet a criminal can have all of that. It’s disgusting to see how lax our system is.

People ask all the time what’s going on with our country? Why are things so out of control? Simple answer is, nobody’s held accountable for their actions.

Prime example is an article in today’s paper. According to the story, Christopher Carreno was sentenced to 12 1/2, years for a drive-by shooting that killed somebody. So I guess the person that died because of his actions, his life was only worth 12 and a half years? How is that right? Why didn’t he get life in prison? He chose to drive by and shoot at that car. He must have known that shooting a gun at something could possibly kill somebody, yet all he gets is 12 and a half years. That makes no sense whatsoever. That’s what’s wrong with our system. He gets free medical free room and board, free weight room, etc. for 12 years yet the victim will never be able to see daylight again, will never be able to hold their family close.

When are we going to start holding people accountable for their actions and quit giving them the life of luxury when they’re in jail? MARGARET HOPPER Yuma
