2 people hurt in alleyway shooting
Injuries not life-threatening; investigation ongoing
Yuma police say two people were wounded Wednesday afternoon in a shooting that happened in the alleyway between Avenue A and 11th Avenue.
Sgt. Lori Franklin explained that at about 12:02 p.m. officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the area, with reports of shots having been fired at the location.
Franklin went on to say that the initial investigation revealed that three vehicles were involved in the incident and that multiple shots had been fired.
All three cars left the scene following the shooting, with one running into the back wall of the All Seasons Florist building, which is located in the 2000 block of S. Avenue A.
Both of the injured individuals were able to drive themselves to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where they were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
While no suspects were taken into custody at the time, Yuma police were later part of a large law enforcement presence in Somerton, in the area of Fulton Street and Somerton Avenue.
According to Somerton police, they were assisting Yuma police in locating a person of interest linked to the shooting of two victims in Yuma earlier in the day.
Somerton Middle School was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure, due to its proximity to the incident, but that lockdown was later lifted.
The investigation is ongoing.
