7 arrests made during holiday DUI crackdown
An Impaired Driving Enforcement Detail operated by Yuma police over the Memorial Day weekend resulted in seven arrests for driving under the influence.
Of those DUI arrests, three were for misdemeanor offenses, two were for extreme DUI and two were for aggravated DUI.
In all, 114 traffic stops were made during the detail, including nine which resulted in other unspecified arrests.
The detail ran from Friday, May 25, through Monday, May 28 and used an additional 16 officers, who were aggressively looking to stop and arrest drivers who were impaired by alcohol or drugs.
The officers involved in the detail were in addition to regularly scheduled patrol officers.
In addition to getting impaired drivers off the street, Yuma police officers were also actively enforcing traffic laws and raising public awareness about the dangers of impaired driving in an effort to save more lives on our roadways.
During the detail, officers issued 24 speeding tickets, including for criminal speeding and issued 90 other citations for violations other than speeding. Officers also encountered 18 designated drivers while issuing four seatbelt violations and four citations for child restraint violations.
Money to pay for the additional officers was provided by a grant from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, which focuses on the apprehension of drunk drivers.
The average blood alcohol content (BAC) recorded during this holiday’s detail was 0.154.
