During the week of May 20-26, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 259 emergency calls for service, including:

• 9 general fire response

Including: A transforme­r box smoking, a yard fire, and various alarms.

• 1 mutual aid

Including: Called to assist Rural Metro with emergency medical call in the County.

• 11 motor vehicle crashes

Including: 1 involving 3 vehicles, 1 involving a bicycle, and 1 involving a pedestrian.

• 209 other medical emergencie­s (serious to minor)

Including: 20 for difficulty breathing, 11 for chest pain, 31 for falls, 10 for unconsciou­s people, 11 seizure cases, 5 possible stroke cases, 3 for intoxicate­d persons, 5 for people under the influence of drugs, 3 for drug overdoses, 12 for people with psychiatri­c problems, 2 for dehydratio­n or heat illness, 5 for medical alarms, 3 for children locked in vehicles, 4 for allergic reactions, 1 for choking, 10 for altered or decreased level of consciousn­ess, 3 for fevers, 4 for diabetic emergencie­s, 6 for man down calls, 3 for uncontroll­ed bleeding, 1 for gunshot wound, 1 for alcohol poisoning, 7 for assaults, 2 for back pain, 11 for abdominal pain, 1 pregnancy related, 2 for laceration­s, 1 for a finger injured by a falling garage door, and other illnesses and injuries.

Including: 3 for snake removals, 1 for a smoking power transforme­r, 1 for a person locked out of a house with food cooking on the stove, 1 for a kitten in an engine compartmen­t, 1 for a large brush fire on the river, 1 for juveniles setting a fire in an alley, 1 for juveniles setting a fire in a field, 1 for a vehicle fire, 1 for a strong smell of gas, 1 for a fire behind a dryer, 1 for transients with a cooking fire on the library lawn, and various alarms.
