Insurance agents make a difference

-

Re: Jimmy Luhm’s letter of 3 June, “Insurance companies don’t make sense” is of concern to many I am certain — costs have escalated with no regard to a driver’s record. I had super agents for the insurance company I dealt with for some years; however, upon their retirement and an upcoming raise in premiums I decided to change insurance companies as the premium offered for 6 months would be a savings of approx. $500.00.

I inquired about an agent in Yuma and was told they had an adjuster in Yuma but no agent per se. I did get their policy. However, shortly after this policy became effective I found one of my cars had been damaged on the passenger side. I had no idea where or how this happened but it had to be when parked while shopping. I notified the company and the nightmare began. I was given the third degree when I explained that I could not tell them where or when it happened, then was told to take it for an estimated cost to repair. I said I would take it to a certain business but was told that I was to take it to a business of their choice even though the contract did not specify same.

The estimate I received by their adjuster, I felt, was well padded and totally out of line. I took it to the business of my choice and withdrew my claim.

I, of course, will not be renewing with this well-advertised company. I want a company with a good agent on site. Hopefully, I will not need their support but if I should, I know a good agent would sidetrack a nightmare.

I would advise anyone to avoid a company that uses a telephone for support if you have a claim. I do not know if the State of Arizona supports this “no agent on site” agenda but it is worth exploring. MODINE URIBE Yuma
