Bonds, budgets on deck for YUHSD board

- BY AMY CRAWFORD SUN STAFF WRITER

The Yuma Union High School District governing is set to talk about budgets at its Wednesday evening meeting.

According to the board’s agenda, it is set to accept 2018-2019 funds from the Southwest Technical Education District of Yuma, the county’s joint technical education district, and hear an overview of the 2017-18 internal budget (informational only).

The board meeting will start at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday in the library of Yuma High School, 400 S. 6th Ave. An executive session is planned toward the end of the meeting to discuss and consider Superintendent Gina Thompson’s evaluation and performance pay. Thompson started as interim superintendent last October and was named to the position in February. Any decision about Thompson’s performance pay will be made in open session.

Other action items include possibly approving a grant writer; authorizing the sale of school improvement bonds and accepting donations.

A new regulation for sabbatical leave, GCCF-R, will have a first reading, and a revised 2018-2019 sabbatical agreement is set to be considered among items on the consent agenda.

A policy on payroll procedures/schedules is also part of that slate of items, as is a purchase for “components for Lenovo ThinkPad Chromebooks and Laptops” and “graduation supplies.” The consent slate also contains a schedule for board meetings for the 18-19 school year and a request for the county treasurer to authorize investments for the coming fiscal year.

The board’s agenda items may be reviewed in the District Administrative Offices, currently located at Yuma High School. The district anticipates moving into its new offices at its location on Avenue A over the summer.

Those needing an accommodation to facilitate observing the meeting or speaking during the call to the public should contact the superintendent’s office (928) 502-4600 prior to the time scheduled for the meeting.
