Fire House Facts
During the week of June 17-23, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 281 emergency calls for service, including:
• 12 general fire response
Including: A dumpster fire, the smell of smoke from a bathroom fan, and various alarms.
• 2 mutual aid
Including: Called to assist the Imperial County Fire Department with a trailer fire and field fire in Winterhaven and also assisted the SomertonCocopah FD backfilling a station while they were on another fire.
• 25 motor vehicle crashes
Including: 1 for a truck in a canal, 1 for a vehicle in a ditch, 1 involving a building, 1 head-on crash, 1 involving a pedestrian, 1 involving a motorcycle, 1 involving 3 vehicles, and 1 with a person who drove a golf cart into a canal (no injuries, but the driver was assisted out by YFD and Yuma Police Department personnel ... a dog, also on board when it went in the canal, got out on its own and went home).
• 217 other medical emergencies (serious to minor)
Including: 31 for difficulty breathing, 21 for chest pain, 22 for falls, 13 for unconscious people, 7 seizure cases, 4 possible stroke cases, 2 for intoxicated persons, 6 for persons under the influence of drugs, 2 for drug overdoses, 13 for people with psychiatric problems, 5 for dehydration or heat illness, 2 for medical alarms, 2 for children locked in vehicles, 1 for allergic reaction, 2 for choking, 14 for altered or decreased level of consciousness, 2 for broken bones, 4 for diabetic emergencies, 2 for man down calls, 4 for uncontrolled bleeding, 3 for bad headaches, 5 for assaults, 3 for back pain, 6 for abdominal pain, 2 for deceased persons, 1 sports related injury, 1 head injury from a falling curtain rod, and other illnesses and injuries
• 25 special duty, public assistance, and residential assignments
Including: 2 for snake removals, 1 for an illegal debris fire in a backyard, 2 for down power lines, 2 vehicle fires (1 in back of a shredder truck), and various alarms.
