YCSO accepts lip sync challenge
The Yuma County Sheriff’s office has answered the challenge of another Arizona sheriff’s office to take part in the law enforcement lip sync battle, and will be uploading a video to its Facebook page within the next week.
Lip sync battles have become sort of a thing now in Arizona and across the country, with police officers and sheriff’s deputies sitting in their patrol cars lip-syncing to popular songs, then posting the video to various social media platforms. Many of the videos have even gone viral.
Once done, the law enforcement agency will then typically issue a challenge to a specific office or deputy, or another department, which YCSO spokesman Alfonso Zavala said is what happened.
Zavala explained that the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office was recently challenged by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, and in response, posted a video of one of its deputies lip syncing to the song “Shake it off” by Taylor Swift.
The video can be seen on the YCSO Facebook page. In the comment section of its post the Pinal Sheriff’s office wrote, “Hey Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, let’s see what you’ve got!”
Apparently, deputies from the YCSO were not having that, and have accepted the good-natured challenge from their fellow deputies. A video is already in production, according to Zavala, and County Channel 77 will edit it once filming is complete.
“It has already stirred up a lot of friendly chat on our Facebook page,” Zavala said. “We thought it would be a fun way for the community to see another side of our deputies and the sheriff’s office.”
While Zavala declined to reveal what song they had chosen, he said the video will likely contain deputies, detention officers and administrative support staff members. Sheriff Leon Wilmot is also participating.
“The hardest part was choosing the song,” Zavala said. “We are also hoping K-9 Jax can even make an appearance.”
Songs from bands such as Journey and AeroSmith were among those discussed before the sheriff’s office finally settled on the one they will be lip syncing to.
