Eduardo’s Mexican Food taking over old Das Bratwurst Haus

San Luis dance team expands into Yuma

Eduardo’s Mexican Food, 1701 S. Avenue B, Suite 112, will close its doors on July 15. But only because the restaurant is reopening at another location.

Owner Bill Higuera announced that the longtime restaurant is moving downtown into the old Das Bratwurst Haus, 204 S. Madison Ave., the German restaurant that recently closed when owners Bill and Barbara Bowles retired.

Higuera is aiming for a Sept. 1 opening. He has always wanted to get back downtown, where his dad, Edward Higuera, first opened the restaurant in 1964, before relocating to 4th Avenue in the 1970s and the current location in the ‘80s.

Bill says that Eduardo’s, named after his father who passed away in 1996, is one of the longest running Mexican food restaurants in Yuma. Bill runs the restaurant with wife Natasha, and they still use old family recipes handed down by his dad’s mom and her mom, which would make her Bill’s greatgrandmother.

“Nothing is frozen. We do our shopping local, all fresh vegetables. We cook everything old style, our rice on a wok and our beans with ham-hock bacon,” Bill said.

They are currently renovating and painting the old Bratwurst. It will have a bar with TVs bigger than it has now, so it will have more of a sports bar feel on that side. It will also have a patio.

Owner Cindy Rodriguez, a longtime dance and PE teacher in San Luis, decided to expand into Yuma, where some of her students already live. She herself lives in the Foothills and commutes daily to San Luis.

The mother of two has taught for 13 years. She started at Desert View Elementary School in San Luis. She is also the Gadsden Marching Band dance director and was named San Luis Instructor of the Year in 2017.

She plans to have small classes with 12-13 girls
