Pen-pricks
• President Trump hosted hundreds of military families for a Fourth of July picnic on the White House lawn. Everyone at the picnic had good reason to feel grateful. The hot dog they ate with ketchup, mustard, cheese and onions now costs $50 more in Canada than it does here.
• USA Today said that morale is down at the Democratic National Committee due to the party’s inability to bring down Trump or dent his support. It’s contagious. The other night on Broadway, Hillary was asked to leave “Les Miserables” because she was bringing the audience down.
• NBC News reported that driverless cars can now be tested in California without a safety driver behind the wheel. These things are going to be on the road soon. A new study says that driverless vehicles could have a huge impact on the elderly, especially if they don’t cross the street fast enough.

My husband and I were coming home on 32nd Street a couple of weeks ago and had a tire blow out on our car.
We were looking in the truck for instructions on the new tire jack, as we had not used one for a long time.
Along came two nice young Marines from the base who offered to help us. They had it all taken care of in about 15-20 minutes.
Isn’t it nice, with all the bad things going on in the country, that two very nice people cared enough to stop and help us?
On June 26, I underwent an angiogram procedure at the Yuma Heart and Vascular Center located at Yuma Regional Medical Center. Dr. Sugata Das, his staff and Tracy Terrones, MSN, R.N., and all her medical staff at YRMC were all friendly, professional, compassionate and extremely caring. I would like to thank them all for their reassurance, kindness and patience prior, during and after my procedure. Truly we are blessed in Yuma for all these fine medical providers.
Kudos to the Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation, City of Yuma and affiliated organizations responsible for bringing Botanical Food Company, a subsidiary of McCormick & Company to the Yuma area.
The resulting economic impact in our community will provide a welcome boost, with 89 full-time jobs
The Fourth of July is about celebrating freedom. You can do it in many ways, but certainly we need to show our gratitude for all the things that keep us free. Perhaps, it would be a good time to read the Constitution one more time.
In Arizona we have lots of visible signs of things that help keep us free. If you live in the Yuma area you’ll see the magnificent F-35s flying from Marine Crops Air Station Yuma. They will be a huge part of our national security for years to come.
You might also give a word of thanks to our newest congresswoman, Debbie Lesko. She represents the district where Luke Air Force Base is located. F-35s fly from there every day and she knows how important it is to lead in the support of our armed forces. She knows how important it is to continue the funding for the F-35 fighter jets. You can see and hear the sound of freedom most every day as they roar off into the sky.
We can all be thankful for those who take our defense spending seriously because supporting our military with the very best equipment is vital to the continuation of our freedom. It is really true that this is the land of the free and the home of the brave.
