Luncheon a chance to meet with candidates

Forum scheduled at Aug. 2 event at the Yuma Civic Center

A “limited number” of tickets remain for an Aug. 2 luncheon featuring a forum for candidates for office in Yuma County’s two state legislativ­e districts.

The event is a “Lunch and Learn” sponsored by the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce’s Legislativ­e Affairs Committee, and will begin 11:30 a.m. at the Yuma Civic Center, 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive.

All 13 people running for Legislatur­e between the two districts have confirmed their attendance at the forum, chamber Executive Director John Courtis said Friday. Tickets are $15 including lunch, and can be purchased at eventbrite. com, or by calling the chamber at (928) 782-2567. Tables for eight are available, and free seating will be provided for those who want to watch the forum without buying a meal. Questions for the participat­ing candidates will be submitted by the chamber board and event sponsors.

Sponsors include the Yuma Sun, Yuma Regional Medical Center, AEA Federal Credit Union, Expect More Arizona, RL Jones Insurance Services, Yuma Investment Group, Cenpatico and 1st Bank Yuma.

The candidates on the ballot for each district in the Aug. 28 primary election are:

District 4 (southern Yuma County)

• Senate – Rep. Lisa Otondo, D-Yuma (unopposed)

• House – Rep. Charlene Fernandez, D-Yuma; Rep. Gerae Peten, D-Goodyear; Sara Mae Williams, Green Party-Sells.

District 13 (northern Yuma County)

• Senate – Brent Backus, R-Waddell; Michelle Harris, D-Buckeye; Rep. Sine Kerr, R-Buckeye; Don Shooter, R-Yuma

• House – Rep. Tim Dunn, R-Yuma; Rep. Darin Mitchell, R-Goodyear; Joanne Osborne, R-Goodyear; Trey Terry, R-Litchfield Park; Thomas Tzitzura, D-Litchfield Park
