Old Souls to hold dog foster fest on Sunday

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Old Souls Animal Rescue and Retirement Home is holding a “Foster Fest” Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to encourage people interested in providing a foster home for one of the dogs the group has taken in.

Paula Rivadeneira said Old Souls has a waiting list of aging or sick dogs whose owners can no longer care for them, so it is actively looking for foster families to free up space for other animals needing a home.

She has a list of 19 dogs available for either fostering or adoption that range in age from 3 to 16, but most are at least 10 years old.

Many had elderly owners who died or could no longer care for them and no alternative homes were available, leaving overcrowded shelters as the only other option.

All are spayed or neutered, dog- and cat-friendly, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Most are healthy, according to the descriptions provided, though some have cancer or other conditions that are being treated or managed.

Foster families are asked to provide the dogs with food, shelter and attention, while Old Souls pays for any veterinarian visits or medication. Free pet-sitting is provided for fostered dogs as well.

Applicants for fostering dogs must be at least 25 years old, not have six or more other animals in the house, and meet other requirements.

Those interested can email the home at oldsoulsk9rescue@gmail.com for a foster/adoption application, and schedule a visit between 11am and 4pm Sunday.

More information is available on Old Souls Animal Rescue and Retirement Home’s Facebook page.
