More restrictions on I-8 to begin Monday
The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising drivers to plan ahead for some restrictions beginning Monday on Interstate 8 in Yuma.
According to an ADOT new release, contractors are scheduled for trenching and utility work on 30th Street near the I-8 and Araby Road traffic interchange improvement project.
The release states that the following restrictions are scheduled to take place in the work zone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through 5 p.m. Wednesday.
• 30th Street east of Araby Road (SR 195) will be closed in both directions from Monday through Wednesday.
• No left or right turns will be permitted on 30th Street while construction is underway. Drivers can access businesses on 30th Street by using Avenue 7E.
ADOT suggests that drivers allow extra travel time and plan for delays during construction. The department also asks that drivers obey posted speed limits and traffic control devices as well as use caution around construction personnel and equipment.
In addition, the following lane restrictions will also begin on Monday near the California border.
• I-8 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction near milepost 2 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. The work zone is located 2 miles east of the Colorado River overpass at the Arizona-California border.
An ADOT news release statesthat crews are also expected to install traffic sensors in the roadway in conjunction with a project to construct a “weigh-in-motion” system for commercial vehicles that drive into the state. ADOT officials say the embedded sensors can determine the approximate weight of commercial vehicles to confirm they comply with state and federal vehicle-weight requirements.
The department asks that motorists be prepared to merge safely into the open travel lane and use caution around construction personnel and equipment as well.
