County to vote on disputed Wellton-area zoning case
The Yuma County Board of Supervisors is set to vote on a Wellton-area zoning case that has drawn opposition from some neighbors.
The proposed rezoning of 86 acres at the intersection of County 8th Street and Avenue 37 1/2 from Rural Area-40 acre minimum lot to Rural Area-10 acre minimum was scheduled for the board’s last meeting July 23.
Then District 3 Supervisor Darren Simmons said he would vote against the proposal, having heard from constituents concerned about the possibility of mobile homes being put on the site, though county staff hadn’t received any comments.
Applicant John Weil was not at the meeting, and a representative asked for the hearing to be continued until Monday, when Weil could be there to make his case.
Weil’s plan is to split the property into five new lots, according to a county staff report.
The meeting will begin 9 a.m. Monday at the Board of Supervisors’ auditorium, 198 S. Main St., Yuma. Also on the agenda:
• A recommendation on state liquor board approval of a regular liquor license for Fortuna Winery, 11665 S. Fortuna Road, suite C. Staff is recommending approval of an amended application which says consumption of alcohol will not be allowed onsite and meets other requirements from the building safety department.
• A recommendation for state liquor board approval of a Series 10 Liquor License for Dateland Travel Center, 1737 S. 64E, Dateland.
• Termination of the Yuma County Airport Authority’s contract with the federal government to operate Rolle Airfield, so a new contract can be negotiated and put into place.
• A report on airport activities from Executive Director Gladys Wiggins.
• Rezoning two parcels totaling 12 acres at 7627 and 7683 E. County 13 1/2 Street from Rural Area-10 acre minimum and Suburban Ranch-2 acre minimum to Suburban Ranch-4 acre minimum.
• A zoning reversion case for a parcel where the owner has not met the required development schedule at 3647 West 8th St., outside Yuma, from general commercial to local commercial. The owner has requested a one-year extension.
• Acceptance of a petition and formation of the Desert Sky Unit No. 1 Subdivision Irrigation Water Delivery District.
• Acceptance of a petition and formation of Tierra Mesa Estates Unis No. 2, 7, 8 and 9 Street Lighting District.
• A $7 million contract with the Arizona Department of Economic Security to provide Title 1 workforce development services to eligible youth, adults and displaced workers in Yuma County.
• A $908,000 contract with Cemex Construction Materials South for the South Frontage Road, Fortuna Road to Foothills Boulevard overlay project.
• A $1 million contract with Cactus Asphalt for an overlay project on County 14th Street between Avenues A and D.
• A presentation from Cenpatico regarding Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System plan changes.
