Police: Shots fired, several flee, one hurt
Incident happened near 26th Street and Madison Avenue
Two people were detained and later released after Yuma police responded to a shots fired call late Sunday night. One person was found to have a gunshot wound.
Yuma Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Lori Franklin said the incident happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. with officers being dispatched to the area of 1st Avenue and 24th Street.
Franklin explained that when officers arrived on scene they learned that several shots had been fired in the area of 26th St. and Madison Ave and several subjects had fled the scene on foot and in vehicles.
Officers observed a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed and conducted a high-risk traffic stop on it. Franklin said one of the occupants inside the vehicle had been shot.
The occupant, a 26-yearold male, was transported by Yuma Fire Department ambulance to Yuma Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The two other occupants in the vehicle were detained and questioned before being released.
The areas of 26th Street and Madison Avenue, as well as 18th Street and 2nd Avenue, were shut down during the investigation.
