Phoenix hits 114 degrees, ties record for date set in 1995
PHOENIX — Another record-tying day of heat for Phoenix.
National Weather Service meteorologists say Monday’s high of 114 degrees tied the record for Aug. 6 for the city that was set in 1995.
The Phoenix metro area was under an excessive heat warning until Monday night.
Temperatures are expected to cool down to 111 on Tuesday, which would be one degree shy of the record set for that date in 2012.
Phoenix tied or broke a heat record on three days last month, including a mark of 116 degrees on July 24 that was the hottest day of the year so far.
Glendale police ID men who died from apparent drug overdoses
GLENDALE — Authorities have released the names of three men who were found dead in a Glendale house from apparent drug overdoses.
Glendale police say 36-year-old Michael Smith rented the house and 44-year-old Heath Spencer and 37-year-old Angel Cruz were his acquaintances.
Police say officers were called to the house 6:30 a.m. Sunday and drugs were found near the bodies.
Detectives have confirmed that the three men ingested drugs prior to their deaths and a quantity of fentanyl and methamphetamine was found in the home.
The substances have been sent to a lab for analysis.
Authorities say the cause and manner of death for the three men will be determined by the Maricopa County medical examiner after toxicology tests are completed.
Man who died while hiking on a Phoenix mountain identified
PHOENIX — Authorities have identified a man who died while hiking on a Phoenix mountain.
Phoenix police say it’s still unclear if the death of 47-year-old Kevin Lurito was heat-related.
The Maricopa County medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Phoenix firefighters were called to Deem Hills Recreational Park near 50th Avenue and Happy Valley Road around noon Sunday after getting a call about of an unresponsive man on a trail.
Rescue crews located Lurito, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
