Pen-pricks

- BY ARGUS HAMILTON KENNETH L. TAYLOR JIMMY LUHM HAROLD PARKES

• European Union nations were reported to be suffering a crime wave this summer in stolen goods, drug running and bank robberies. Earlier this week, someone broke into a delivery truck in Belgium and stole $2 million worth of Red Bull. How do these thieves sleep at night?

• Mexico will build an offshore barrier up and down its coasts to keep seaweed from washing up on the beaches. Americans just realized Trump has now come within 90-degrees of keeping his biggest campaign promise. Mexico is reportedly upset over Trump’s border wall, but they’ll get over it.

• The Pentagon said it believes the Russian space program is developing satellites that can not only attack U.S. satellites but also connect with them and attach spying equipment on them. They have no connection to Western values. Russians believe that golf is a game of fetch for humans.

• The New York Times quoted Italian authorities who said they fear criminal graft and inferior construction led to the Genoa bridge collapse. There’s evidence the bridge was built with what they called Mafia concrete. They have found six more bodies than there are people missing.

In Sunday’s paper, I read your Pen Pricks column reference to the six Hollywood stars vowing to leave the United States. As one who served and is a patriot, I would be more than happy, at no cost, to help them pack up and be on their way. The sooner they left, the better for all of us. I could also recommend a few places that would better serve their political beliefs, one being Venezuela. These six have vowed to leave. The door’s open. Don’t let it hit you on the way out.

Hollywood needs to be held accountable with all the hideous crimes we see taking place today, regardless of where one happens to live. What more can one really expect when we’ve allowed Hollywood these past 25 years to be our guide, our teacher and example for young children to follow?

Where one walked away years ago after viewing a film feeling positive or uplifted, today you leave a theater with your ears ringing and wondering why you even spent the money to go see it. Watching cars blow up, buildings collapsing due to loud explosions and close-up shots of people being shot, which some may call reality, do we really need Hollywood exploiting sickening events of the past?

Today I have found myself being extremely selective in what I personally care to view, being if it isn’t uplifting in some ways. What’s the point of seeing it, I ask?

A couple of years back, before even reaching the seating area, I was blown away by the filthy words being spoken on the screen. Then, as I rounded the corner, there sat a young mother with three of her children who couldn’t have been over 10 years old in age. In seeing this being allowed, I turned around and headed for the main lobby to speak with the manager. His response was, if a person feels it is all right, there is little we can do to stop it.

What this points out to me is that Hollywood no longer has a conscience, and that even most adults are blinded by what they allow themselves to be a part of.

By the way, the theater that day was packed, which left me with this question. How many of those present either teach in the church they attend, or are parishioners who make it a point to attend services each Sunday? Does this not point to the verse in the Bible wherein what’s referred to as being the last days? Right will appear as being wrong, wrong as right. To this I say we asked for it, we deserve it.

That is the accountability we all will someday answer to.

Thumbs down: 1- the number of street lights not working on Foothills Boulevard!

2- A reporter not returning a loaned book after 2 years!!
