San Luis CBP officers seize $230K in drugs, arrest 3
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of San Luis arrested two U.S. citizens and a Mexican National during separate weekend attempts to smuggle a combined $230,000, worth of drugs into the United States.
The first incident occurred Saturday when officers referred a 29-year-old Yuma woman for further inspection as she attempted to enter the U.S. through a pedestrian lane.
While in the pedestrian lane a CBP narcotics detection K-9 alerted to an odor emanating from the woman. CBP officers took the woman to a local medical facility where medical staff removed a package containing nearly 58 grams of fentanyl pills concealed inside her body cavity.
The second seizure occurred a couple of hours later when officers referred the 55-year-old male driver of a Ford sedan for a secondary inspection.
During the inspection, a K-9 team located a cache of heroin, meth and fentanyl with a combined weight exceeding 40 pounds.
On Sunday, officers discovered another Yuma woman, age 31, attempting to smuggle drugs through the pedestrian lane. She was referred for a secondary inspection, during which officers discovered more than half a pound of meth in her personal belongings.
Officers seized the drugs and vehicle. All three individuals arrested were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
