No charges were filed Wednesday afternoon in Yuma Justice Court against the man who was arrested in connection to large rocks being thrown through the windows of at least a dozen businesses last month, including two at the Yuma Sun.

Jesse Carrillo was arrested in the early morning hours of Aug. 26 on three counts of burglary, two counts of theft, and one count each of theft of means of transportation and criminal damage, all of which are felonies.

He was also facing two misdemeanor counts of criminal damage and remains in custody at the Yuma County jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.

When Carrillo appeared in court for his arraignment, he was informed by Judge Pro-Tempore Erin Farrar that the Yuma County Attorney’s Office did not file a criminal complaint in either of the two cases against him.

Farrar also cautioned Carrillo that the county attorney’s office has up to a year to decide whether to refile the charges against him, and if that were to happen, he would be summoned back to court.

Carrillo is not being released, however. According to court records, he has a case pending against him in Yuma County Superior Court in which prosecutors have consolidated all of the charges stemming from the multiple incidents into a single case.

According to Yuma police, on Sunday, Aug. 26, in the early morning officers began responding to multiple reports of criminal damage done to businesses.

These reports, approximately a dozen, all involved a large rock thrown through a window or windows of the business. This occurred in the central part of the city, from about the 1500 block of 5th Avenue to the 2800 block of 4th Avenue.

These incidents are being investigated, and the Yuma Police Department encourages anyone with information about these cases or who is a victim of a similar incident to please call the Yuma Police Department at (928) 373-4700, or 78-Crime to remain anonymous.
