Yuma BP talks challenges at conference
More than 20 agencies gather for annual event
Yuma Sector Border Patrol held an “Operations and Intelligence” conference Wednesday for more than 20 federal, military, tribal, state, county and city law enforcement agencies, with the topic being the current challenges facing the sector.
According to information provided by agent Jose J. Garibay III, of the Yuma Sector Public Affairs Office, the main discussion centered on trends and tactics in use by transnational criminal organizations operating throughout the country.
Yuma Sector leaders also expressed a desire to provide a forum of trust and continued “whole of government approach” in proactive policing tactics.
“Yuma Sector covers over 175,000 square miles and counts on every law enforcement and military entity in attendance to help protect our nation,” Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Porvaznik said. “Meetings such as these help foster a stronger and more lasting relationship for a more secure border.”
Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents effectively combat smuggling organizations attempting to transport people and con- traband illegally through southwestern Arizona and California.
