Police seek suspect in woman’s stabbing death in Tucson

TUCSON — Authoritie­s are searching for a 21-yearold man believed to be responsibl­e in the stabbing death of a woman at a Tucson mobile home complex.

Tucson police say an arrest warrant has been issued for Bryan Guzman Hernandez in the killing of 39-year-old Shaundra Cruz on Wednesday morning.

Investigat­ors have been unable to locate Hernandez.

They say Cruz was found stabbed in the complex’s driveway after police received a 911 call about a possible assault.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Cruz was visiting Hernandez at an apartment across the street and fled after an argument began.

Hernandez is accused of chasing Cruz across the street before stabbing her.

Sells gang member convicted in woman’s shotgun killing

TUCSON — A Sells gang member has been convicted in the shotgun killing last year of a woman on the Tohono O’odham reservatio­n.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Arizona announced Thursday that a federal jury in Tucson found 26-year-old Warren Miles guilty of involuntar­y manslaught­er.

Prosecutor­s say Miles, a member of the Tohono O’odham Nation, and other gang members approached the victim and four others in November 2017.

They say Miles’ group was riding in a truck when they were pulled over. The gang flashed firearms and yelled derogatory comments. Prosecutor­s say that’s when Miles fired a shotgun at close range. The victim was struck in the face, neck and chest.

He then fled the scene in the truck.

Miles is being held until his sentencing, which is scheduled for Nov. 28.

Tucson man indicted for manslaught­er in girlfriend’s death

TUCSON — Six years after his girlfriend was fatally shot in the couple’s home, a Tucson man has been indicted on a manslaught­er charge.

A Pima County grand jury indicted 32-year-old Ronald James Corbin Jr., citing the reckless use of a firearm.

Prosecutor­s originally declined to charge Corbin in the death of 27-year-old Genna Ayup.

She was found shot in June 2012 and later died at a hospital.

The Arizona Daily Star reports that Corbin told police he was putting a rubber grip on a loaded handgun when it fired and struck Ayup in the head.

Evidence gathered after the shooting led to Corbin being arrested on suspicion of manslaught­er.

But county prosecutor­s declined to pursue the case, saying the shooting was accidental.

Man accused of beating woman in Phoenix home invasion

PHOENIX — Police say a man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault for severely beating a woman in west Phoenix during a home invasion.

John Eaves is accused of beating the 74-year-old woman as she awoke in her bed early Tuesday morning.

She was bound, and her Mercedes was stolen. Police say the victim was able to free herself and call for help.

Authoritie­s say the 20-year-old Eaves was spotted driving the victim’s car on Thursday, fled from police and later crashed into a parked vehicle. The victim is being treated at a hospital for her injuries.

Trial set for man accused of plowing car into 3 officers

PHOENIX — An Oct. 29 trial has been scheduled for a man accused of deliberate­ly plowing a car into three Phoenix police officers nearly two years ago outside a convenienc­e store in west Phoenix.

Marc Laquon Payne has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, aggravated assault and other charges in the attack.

Authoritie­s say the 46-year-old Payne speeded across the store’s parking lot where the officers were standing and slammed into the officers.

Police say Payne fought with officers, but was taken into custody after one of the officers used a stun gun on Payne.

One officer suffered a broken leg, while another officer had a concussion.

The third officer suffered minor injuries.
