Yuma High, San Pasqual, Antelope all lose on road

- FROM STAFF REPORTS @YUMASUNSPORTS

Yuma High gave up 14 quick points in the first quarter Friday night at Holtville (Calif.) and was never able to recover in a 21-0 loss.

The Criminals (1-2 overall), led by senior running back Bryan Escamilla (26 carries for 118 yards), were able to move the ball but weren’t able to cash in on their scoring opportunities. Coach Curt Weber said that three drives stalled inside Holtville’s 15-yard line, including one inside the 5.

“They brought pressure and we didn’t handle pressure very well,” Weber said of what went wrong on those red zone possessions.

After Holtville (3-1) scored on a long touchdown in the first quarter, Yuma High fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Vikings offense immediately scored again.

“They scored 14 points in about 33 seconds,” Weber said. “We dominated the rest of the game. They didn’t score (again) until 4:41 left in the game.”

Fort Thomas 64, San Pasqual 12

San Pasqual was outgunned once again at Fort Thomas.

The Warriors (0-3) fell 6412 on the road.

Ft. Thomas led 42-6 at halftime.

The first touchdown came on a 54-yard pass from junior William White to junior Josh White, and the second was in the second half on a run by Josh White.

“We’re getting better,” San Pasqual coach Sal Pineda said. “Our score was about the same as it was against Babo. Fort Thomas was a better team than them and we scored a couple of times.”

Tombstone 68, Antelope 38

Antelope suffered its first loss of the season Friday after a long bus ride over to Tombstone (3-0).

The Rams fell 68-38 after giving up only 27 combined points in the first three games of the season.

Antelope (3-1) will be back next week at Parker (1-2).
