A total loss
Fire destroys trailer, two vehicles on property
Rural Metro firefighters extinguised a blaze Wednesday night that destroyed a vacant trailer and two vehicles that were parked next to it, according to information from spokesperson Charly McMurdie.
McMurdie said the fire broke out at 7 p.m. at County 13th Street and Carlotta Avenue and that while enroute, firefighters radioed for additional assistance.
“Before firefighters got on scene they could see a plume of black smoke and a huge red glow,” McMurdie said.
Upon their arrival firefighters found a trailer, which had multiple additions built on to it, completely engulfed in flames. There were also two vehicles parked one in front of the other next to the trailer that had also caught fire, as well as some brush.
McMurdie said firefighters immediately began extinguishing the fire, starting with the two vehicles and working their way in toward the trailer. She added that firefighters were spraying the fire from both sides and managed to keep it contained.
“The wind, though not strong, was enough to worry about the fire spreading to the trees and brush on the north side of fire,” McMurdie said.
Although she did not have a specific length of time, McMurdie said it took a long time to put all of the flames out due to the multiple hot spots. The trailer and two vehicles were a total loss.
The owner of the property was contacted and he informed firefighters that no one had been living at the residence. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
