YCSO: Husband shoots wife in Foothills
He is accused of trying to kill her, is arrested
A Foothills man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after reportedly admitting to shooting his wife Wednesday night, according to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, identified as Mark Antonio Villicana, 40, made his initial appearance in Yuma Justice Court on Thursday afternoon, where he was informed of the charge against him.
He is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
He is scheduled to return to court on Monday, at which time he will be informed whether a criminal complaint has been filed against him and what, if any, charges it contains.
Alfonso Zavala, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said that at approximately 8:30 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 10100 block of South Typhoon Avenue in the Foothills.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke to Villacana, who allegedly told them that he had shot his wife. She was reportedly found in the garage of the home with a single gunshot wound to the head.
“It is a domestic violencerelated attempted homicide,” Zavala said. “What actually happened is still under investigation.”
Villacana’s wife was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center and later flown to a Phoenixarea hospital where she remains.
The YCSO Criminal Investigation Bureau assumed the investigation.
Villicana was arrested without incident and booked into the Yuma County jail on one count of attempted first-degree murder.
