• Thumbs up to the parties that worked together to find solutions for accessing the interior of the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. Castle Dome Mine Museum owner Allen Armstrong and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have agreed on an interim plan to keep an access road open while a bypass route is build.

• Thumbs up to the officials in San Luis who are working on new incentives to bring business and industry to the region! The move is businessfr­iendly, and helps grow the economy – a win-win for the city.

• Thumbs up to the Cocopah Indian Tribe, which recently revived a tradition of the past by brewing screwbean tea, which was last made nearly a

• Thumbs up to those who choose to participat­e in the Yuma Cares program. Yuma Cares allows residents to include donations on their City of Yuma services bill, which are then used to help low-income customers with temporary hardships. • Thumbs up to the members of the Yuma Fire Department for their efforts to remember and honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

• Thumbs down to the continued efforts by scammers to scare people into giving them money. In one of the most recent scams, the caller claims to be from Arizona Public Service, and tells residents their power will be cut if they don’t pay a late bill. Readers, when you get these calls, hang up and call APS directly at 602-371-7171.

• Thumbs down to the humid days we’ve had recently. Heat is one thing, but hot and sticky are another level of pain. Mother Nature, we’re ready for a break!

• Thumbs down to bad customer service over the phone. If you have a local business, spend some time, and coach your staff to build positive phone interactio­ns, because nothing turns customers away faster than rude team members on the phone.
