Crane honors 96 students with perfect scores on statewide test
There was much to celebrate at the Crane School District Governing Board meeting on Tuesday evening.
In total, 96 students received perfect scores on their AzMerit statewide assessment. The statewide exam, given for the past four years, is taken by third-grade through high school students.
Recently, the Arizona Department of Education released the final 2017-18 AzMerit results.
“We had a number of students who had achieved perfect scores on their AzMerit tests so we recognized all those students at the meeting,” said Crane Governing Board President Brenna Paulin in a phone interview with the Yuma Sun. “We had all of the students, parents and families there. Also, state representative Charlene Fernandez was there to help recognize the kids as well.
“The students who received perfects scoresthat’s definitely something to celebrate because these are third through eighth graders,” Paulin added. “It’s really exciting and amazing to see these little guys getting perfect scores. They are tested in the areas of math, ELA (English Language Arts) and algebra so it’s pretty exceptional.”
Also recognized at the meeting was parent ambassador, and volunteer, Eliana Osborn for writing grants for Gowan Science Academy. Within the last year, Obsourn has helped secure $23,725 in different grants for the school, Paulin noted.
“It’s unbelievable to us that we have parents that are that dedicated and put in the amount of effort to do things like this for our school,” she said. “It’s really wonderful and we appreciate it so much.”
Along with academic achievements, a presentation was given at the meeting by students from Gowan Science Academy on a Learning Without Limits program that encourages international relations in education.
Additionally during Tuesday night’s meeting the board adopted the Proposition 301 teacher-performance pay plan for the school year, as well as the superintendent’s 2018-2019 performance goals.
