During the week of Sept. 2-8, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 270 emergency calls for service, including:

• 3 General Fire Response

Including: 2 for a strong natural gas smell in a home, and various alarms. • 1 Mutual Aid

Including: Called to assist Rural Metro with an emergency medical run in the county. • 17 Motor Vehicle Crashes

Including: 2 involving 3 or more vehicles, 1 involving a tree, 1 involving a pedestrian, 2 head on collisions, and 3 rollovers.

• 232 Other Medical Emergencie­s (serious to minor)

Including: 20 for difficulty breathing, 16 for chest pain, 27 fall victims, 9 unconsciou­s people, 10 seizure cases, 4 possible stroke cases, 8 for intoxicate­d persons, 1 person under the influence of drugs, 4 overdose cases, 19 people with psychiatri­c problems, 4 for heat illness, 4 medical alarms, 2 for allergic reactions, 2 for choking, 15 for altered or decreased level of consciousn­ess, 1 for fever, 2 for broken bones, 2 for diabetic emergencie­s, 1 for a spider bite, 1 for a dog bite, 8 for “man down” calls, 1 for uncontroll­ed bleeding, 1 for bad headaches, 3 for assaults, 7 for back pain, 4 for abdominal pain, 1 for a deceased person, 2 for laceration­s, 1 sports related injury, 1 for gasoline in eyes and mouth, 1 for a person hit in the head with a softball, 1 for a person who hit their head on a truck, 1 for a hand injured by punching a TV, 1 for a set of handcuffs stuck on wrist ... and other illnesses and injuries.

Including: 1 for down power lines, 1 golf cart fire, 1 for broken glass on an oven door, 2 for fuel leaks, 1 snake removal, 2 for small brush fires, 1 for people stuck in an elevator, 1 for an ammonia smell, 1 for natural gas smell in the area, and various alarms.
